We are asking everyone to please encrypt all research data, regardless of whether it includes protected health information or not. There's lots of ways to do this but a free and relatively eaone is to go to http://www.truecrypt.org This does the job to the federal government's approved standards. This is a departmental standard not a hospital one but it is good practice and will keep everyone out of trouble in the event of a USB drive or computer being stolen.
