Research Agenda
Our Research Interests
Emergency Medicine is a very broad field. Just as individual Emergency Physicians, (EP), often have an area of special interest, most academic EPs and sometimes whole departments have a research area of special interest. In our department research has concentrated on children with bronchiolitis. We have done this in collaboration with a diverse group of experts form other fields. As a result our children with bronchiolitis are offered state of the art virology testing not available at community hospitals. This is made availble at no charge to our patients.
This video outlines how much some of our collaborations are linked.
Our Collaborators
Martin E. Adelson Ph.D
Martin Adelson is the Director of Research and Development at Medical Diagnostic Laboratories, NJ. His interest is in infectious diseases and in developing new assays that will ultimately predict outcomes and treatment response based on knowledge of the genetics of the pathogen.
Pádraig Cunningham BE, MA, MEngSci (NUI), Ph.D
Professor Pádraig Cunningham, Dept of Computer Science, University College Dublin. His interests are Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Case Based Reasoning. We have collaborated over a number of projects even before starting at KMC. From this bio you will figure which ones we are working on now!
Dónal Doyle Ph.D
Dónal Doyle recently completed his Ph.D. He based part of his research at KMC where he implemented a Case based reasoning tool to predict outcomes in bronchiolitis. This work is still ongoing. Currently he is working with the Dept of Mathematics at UCD.
Stephen J Rothenberg Ph.D
Stephen Rothenberg is senior researcher and professor at the National Institute of Public Health, Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico and at the Center of Research and Advanced Studies (CINVESTAV-IPN), Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. He also holds the post of Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Los Angeles, CA. His interests are epidemiology, toxicology, and statistical modeling.
